He was an amateur genealogist and was listed as a source in the GalpinBook many times. He apparently wintered in Orlando, Florida after hisretirement and was a merchant, being a partner in a store in Ansoniafor many years. He moved to Sidney, Nova Scotia, or was reported tohave planned this move in his daughter's wedding announcements. Hisgrandson, Nelson Howard, Jr. remembers him visiting occasionally as achild, and that he was quite hard of hearing and sported a horn foryou to yell into. He reportedly had a wonderful sense of humor and itmust have been a great tragedy to lose his daughter at such a youngage, when he had lost his wife just before Anna's marriage to herhusband, Nelson Howard.
