Willam Alexander Sharp
William was the eldest of ten children. His father noticed his son,William's talents at an early age. He was always sketching portraitsof his family members and they were so good, that he decided he shouldsend him back to England to study art. He studied in Wales (where oneof his fathers brothers now resided) . The father had moved his familyto Ottawa, Ks. where his father started selling bobbed-wire which wasa new item on the market. He did so well that he sold enough to goaround the equator 2 times.
He then moved his family to Washington DC where he became anarchitect. When they moved to Florida, he decided to purchase andrenovate an old hotel in Orlando. It became so popular that it wasfilled with snow birds, all the time. Then one day, a tenant left theteapot on the stove unattended and it burned the entire building down.Along with many beautiful collections they had brought over fromEngland. Virginia's great grandfather, William Douglas Tollerton (whowas an architect) his cousin and William moved to LA and set up anoffice. They were instrumental in designing and decorating the wellknown Mission in Riverside, Ca. which covers an entire City block andwas built by Frank Miller as the owner. William A. designed many ofthe stained glass windows there, also and has many of his murals stillhanging there. Several of the US presidents were married here, including Regan. His granddaughter, Virginia, was an active member ofthe mission until a few years back. Virginia is 88 years young in2006.
