Hisdaughter, Dar, describes a story about him taking the examination forhis law degree and he was so nervous, his pen flew up in the air andstuck in the ceiling. She said that he was a boy's soprano at GraceCathedral in New York, but have not been able to prove this. Dar saysthat the whole family was musical. He was a self-taught courtreporter (allegedly the fastest in the country) who took the notes inmany famous federal cases, the most notorious of which was the SaccoVanzetti Case. He was allegedly a member of the Interstate CommerceCommission and a 3rd degree mason. He was a Republican and hisdaughter said that when the Democrats came in, he lost his career. Heand his wife were purported to be the typical provincial couple, withvery Victorian views on things. He died of cancer and his daughter,Dar, took care of him during his last years in Brookline,Massachusetts.
