Sylvester Galpin

For many years ran a store on West St. Litchfield, CT. He was townclerk, 1838-1840, Secretary of the Mutual Fire Insurance Co. in 1833and 1834, Sect. and Treasurer of the Litchfield Female Academy in 1827and at one time was bailiff. Jan 07, 1836 wrote poem "Building aTown Hall." After his death, his children were placed in the care oftheir uncle Robert Erwin Galpin and his wife and Sylvester's 2nd wifeCynthia Smith.

Sylvester Galpin, son of Litchfield, Connecticut lawyer and politicianAmos Galpin and his wife sybil, was born January 13, 1793. Being alocal resident, as well as having a sister who had attended, it islikely that he studied at Sarah Pierce's Female Academy as well.During his lifetime, Sylvester married twice. He and his first wife,Clarissa Smith, had three children during their marriage. After thedeath of his first wife Sylvester married Cynthia S. Smith. Littleelse is known about his life besides his death on December 12, 1841.
