Sam McLean and his brother James came to America on the American shipShakespeare, sailing from Liverpool on Saturday, June 11, 1836arriving in New York on July 16th. Became a well known activist,being part of the group that got the Brooklyn Bridge built, made afortune as a merchant and removed to Watertown, CT to retire.Children Anne and Thomas were devoted. Buried in the family plot inEvergreen Cemetery, Watertown, CT. Member of the Hamilton Club in NYand the Brooklyn Club. He had many famous and loyal friends whomourned his death from a railroad accident.
