Orletta Fay Postlewaite

Orletta Postlethwaite Whatley passed from this life on November 14,2008 in Pasadena, Texas. She was born on June 13, 1923 in ClarkTownship, Ohio to the union of Carl Joseph Postlethwaite and NellieGorby-Postlethwaite. Orletta had a deep abiding faith instilled in herby her faithful Christian parents, which made it possible for her toconquer all of the challenges life set before her. She was profoundlyintelligent and excelled in every area of her life and was always aleader. Orletta graduated as class president from the first class ofNurse Graduates at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Thegraduation photo of that class still hangs in the halls to this day.Soon after graduation, Orletta and her family moved to Houston.Orletta worked for many years as the head nurse in the Children’sLeukemia Ward at MD Anderson Hospital and also at Methodist Hospitalas a nurse for Dr. DeBakey. After retirement she continued to workserving in the southeastern chapter of AARP. She had the type ofpersonality that enabled her to affect each and every life shetouched. Orletta loved to have fun and the bright lights of Vegas. Sheenjoyed learning to line dance, play the ukulele, and tap dancing. Herinfectious joyful spirit will be missed by all those who wereprivileged to know her.
Orletta was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, CaryleBrockman. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children; KathyKettle and husband Tommy, Bill Whatley and wife Karen, Steve Whatleyand wife Debbie, Nancy Meyer and husband Rick, 11 grandchildren, 15great-grandchildren, 1 sister; Juanita Horton of Manassas, VA, 3nieces; Caye, Mondra, and Linda, 1 nephew; Edward, and her long timefriend Gene Ritter, as well as many other loving relatives andfriends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Orletta’scaregivers; Edna and Bernice and the Courtyards at Pasadena for theirkindness. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM onNovember 28, 2008 at Jefferson Memorial Park, 1591 Gadsden Highway,Birmingham, Alabama 35235. In lieu of floral tributes contributionsmay be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 2242 W. Holcombe Blvd.,Houston, Tx. 77030-2008
