CHARLOTTE - Ann Ashby Macon, beloved wife of the late Boise FordMacon, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Charlotte Medical Center.She was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Winston-Salem to the late Lottie WhiteAshby and James Patterson Ashby. She attended Greensboro College andworked in New York City before returning to Winston-Salem and marryingBoise in 1946. Because of his work for the J.A. Jones ConstructionCo., Ann and Boise resided in a number of locations around the countryand at every one, Ann established a loving home for their growingfamily. Ann's life was dedicated to Boise and her six children, andthrough her tireless devotion and support, all of her childrengraduated from college and established homes of their own. Althoughshe enjoyed traveling to exotic places with Boise, Ann's greatest joywas in visiting their children and having them come home. She was alifelong Methodist whose faith was manifested in her service toothers, especially through her volunteer work in local charities andsupport of several national organizations. She enjoyed golf with Boiseand she was an avid supporter of her children's many athletic andartistic endeavors. She is survived by her children, Ann Macon-Ellisand husband Mark of Charlotte, Boise F. Macon Jr. and wife DottieClark of Houston, Texas, Betty Aiello and husband Steve of Warrenton,Va., Jim Macon and wife Marti of Winston-Salem, Artie Macon and wifeAngie of Decateur, Ga., and Stephen Macon and wife Robin of Cleveland,Miss.; her grandchildren, Tony and David Aiello, Clark and PaigeMacon, Bryan and Brent Macon, Sam and Claire Macon and Katy, Emily,Sophie and William Macon; her brothers, William Ashby and wife Nancyof Boulder, Colo., James Ashby of Palos Verdes, Calif., and GeorgeAshby and wife Toi of Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Macon was preceded indeath by her husband, Boise Ford Macon. A service to celebrate thelife of Mrs. Macon will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, atProvidence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doctor KennethCarter and the Rev. Doctor Bill Jeffries officiating. Entombment willfollow at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Salem Cemetery in Winston-Salem.Visitation will be from 7 to 9 this evening, Jan. 15, at McEwenCharlotte Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to theAmerican Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202; theAlzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215; orProvidence United Methodist Church Chapel Fund, 2810 Providence Road,Charlotte, NC 28211.
