BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: Born during the depression. Went to ten schools all over the country as father Ford moved for business. Loved literature(Kipling), architecture and dogs. Played football and boxed in school with Golden Gloves as a welterweight (148 lbs.) and won a Golden Gloves award, training with Canto Robletto, a famous Pasadena boxing trainer. Graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1949. Went to UCLA and UC Berkeley, CA. In the US Army when marrying Joan and moved up to Northern California while based at Fort Ord. After the army, began his career in real estate sales. Was a broker at Coldwell Banker in Los Angeles and Newport Beach until 1968. Became one of the founding partners at Don Koll Company in Newport Beach, CA in 1968 and continued successfully at that company until 1974. Founded the LeeSammis Company then and became one of the most respected land developers in the country. Split off to start Lee Sammis Associates in 1989. Had projects all over the country - Virginia, Northern and Southern California, Florida, Arizona, Washington, New Jersey. Sought after speaker at conferences for ULI, NAIOP and many otherorganizations. Was an adept analyst of market trends and real estate.
He and his wife travel extensively and often for business. They were avid antique collecters, having one of the largest "sailor's wools" collections in the country. They also collect nautical antiques, scales, sword canes and various other items. They were still "dogpeople," always loving animals. Their lives were kept busy by their 8 grandchildren who lived near them. Family was always foremost in priorities for Lee Sammis and he remained active in the real estate development business.
Lee Sammis was a music connoisseur. He sang well and had archives of most types of music represented in his thousands of recordings.

In August 1989, Lee C. Sammis reduced his involvement with The Sammis Company (1974-1989) to expand his 100% owned company, Lee Sammis Associates (LSA), which he formed in the State of Virginia in 1981with offices in Costa Mesa, California; Sacramento, California; Washington, D.C.; and Vero Beach, Florida. Mr. Sammis' strategy for LSA was to concentrate its efforts in the San Francisco/Sacramento metropolitan area, the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and the state of Florida. The firm had projects underway in various regions, the specific locations of which are/were: Solano County (a SanFrancisco suburb); Yuba County (a Sacramento suburb); the Virginia andMaryland suburbs of Washington, D.C.; and Martin and Broward Counties in Florida.
Under the auspices of Mr. Sammis, LSA completed 28 master planned industrial parks, office complexes and commercial centers with asset values in excess of $400 million. Most notable were two high quality office and technology parks (Campus Commons and the Branches) in Reston, Virginia.
Thereafter, in October 1991, during the depths of the real estate depression, Mr. Sammis purchased the 1,276 acre mixed-use HuntingtonProject (a Centrust Bank development) for $36.1 million, bringing in Rockefeller Realty
