Julia writes in family Bible:
Parents left Liverpool, England September 19, 1867
Landed in NY October 5th, Chicago October 9, 1867
Burned out at Coronado Hotel, Coronado, Florida December 1st, 1896,total loss, no insurance

"After [Julia's] father's death, Julia's mother had married WilliamGoode Guppy, "a member of a fine old English family, "but tooconvivial" (Underscore is from Will Sharp's written remarks). "AGuppy family resided in Farway, Devon, from the beginning of the 17thCentury (perhaps even earlier) until a generation ago [text written in1968 by Henry Brougham Guppy, M. B., Edinburgh]; to this stockbelonged the Guppys of Sidbury Castle in the early part of thecentury. Somerset has long known the name.. ... A few of the name arestill to be found in Somerset."

As for the Goode line, "Henry Goode was rector of Weldon in 1684;William Good claimed part of the manor of Ketting in 1652.."

Mary's family went to live in a large manor house owned by her Julia'sstep-father (William Good-Guppy) in Sidbury, Sussex, England. Thishome, much like typical buff-colored manor houses, was badly damagedby fire in 1860, and sold to the Cave Estate in 1663, when it wasdemolished. The family was next found at 54 Reach Street in Taunton,when Julia was married to Frank Sharp the following year. This wouldbe the first of three fires to affect Julia's life".
