Jennie Sammis

Chas was born in Ohio and his family moved to Logansport, Indianaafter his mother died very young. Chas and Jenny lived in Clinton,IN., and he worked as a executive or bookkeeper in a coal mine. Theyhad 4 kids, one being Geneva and she married Chas Hughes, who workedin the coal mine, in 1901. The story goes that Geneva was her dad'ssecretary and they met at the coal mine, but I also found out laterthat they lived on the same street only five blocks from each other.Chas Walker, I guess he was quite affluent, purchased a vacation homein Rothbury, MI. and they went there every summer. Chas Hughes had anaccident in the coal mine and could no longer work in the mines so Mr.Walker moved him and his daughter to Rothbury.
He became a farmer (why he could not work in the mines but could farmI do not know). My mother Martha was born on that farm and she marriedmy father, Grayson Squires. I was born in 1932 and joined the AirForce in 1952. My mother and dad moved from Rothbury to Texas (whichis a long story) shortly after I went in the AF so the family is stillhere, although my parents have passed on. I am 77 and have threechildren, all in this area, and 7 grandchildren. I have been workingon this geneology stuff for years now and have written a book aboutour 2 families the Hughes and Squires.
