Served as Chief of Police for the County of Wetaskiwin and SpecialConstable for the SPCA. Had a special love for animals and traveledfrequently to rodeos to make sure the animals were not mistreated. Heloved to watch the chuckwagon races. His motto was, "If you're goingto do a job, do it well." Funeral services were held at the PnokaFuneral home on Thursday, May 19, 2011.

Horace Arthur “Red” Howard
Horace Arthur “Red” Howard was born on August 23, 1918 in Edmonton andpassed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 13, 2011 atthe Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Red will be greatly missed by hischildren Art (Yvonne) of Calgary, Richard (Donna) of Leduc, Les (Kate)Melin of Usona, Becca (Clint) Goodrich of Wetaskiwin and Deb (Barry)Stevens of Ponoka; grandchildren Scott, Tim, Dean, Pamela, Kim, Darcy,Leah, Bobbi-Jo, Tara, Jed, Chelsy, Sarah, Drianna, Caitlin and Taylor;great-grandchildren Jordan, Christopher, Kevin, Avery, Tanner, Jayden,Bella, Hunter, Katie, Sophia, Austin and McKayla; as well as nieces,nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his father HoraceHubbard Howard, step-mother Martha Howard, his wife Patricia, infantson Barry, daughter Betty and grandson Darren. Many will remember Redfrom when he served as the Chief of Police for the County ofWetaskiwin and Special Constable for the SPCA. Red’s love andcompassion for animals was evident during his time with the SPCA,particularly when travelling to various rodeo events to ensure thatthe animals were not mistreated. Red loved to watch the chuckwagonraces, so much so that had he had the opportunity to race, he probablywould have. Although chuckwagon drivers get a bad rap from the public,Red’s interaction with them and witness to the bond between driver andhorses was tremendous and he admired them for it. Red loved his jobsand put his heart into them. He may not have been the most well likedwhile in the line of duty, but he took his job very seriously and itshowed. Red’s motto was, “if you’re going to do a job, do it well”. AFuneral Service to celebrate Red’s life will be held at the PonokaFuneral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011.
