Biography
Notes for Ella Marcina Roseberry: To MRS. HITCHCOCK We pay ourrespects to Mrs. Hitchcock, and offer counsolance to him, who, inlife, was her companion. We can say nothing sweeter than that Mrs.Hitchcock was a mother - a mother not only to her own children, but toother children who have not known the affections of a mother's love.We can say nothing nobler than that she was a Christian woman; andthat her home, her life and words and actions radiated her belief inthe people about her and faith in a Love which transcends that whichwe know in life. Her position as the wife of our Master Mechanicmight have induced her into another social life and led the gay galaxyof the social life in our town, but instead she preferred the betterknown in her circle of friends in the church which she loved. Amember of the Methodist church, an active worker in all thedepartments in which the ladies are especially interested, she wasloved and honored and respected by all. While in life she knew thejoy which comes with friendly mention, her passing away disclosed someof the intimate little things and events which will keep the memory ofher sweet and repected by those who knew her best. Today, at ameeting of the ladies of her church, some beautiful tributes were paidto her memory. A little girl who had grown up knowing only the loveof this kind woman which was given in the place of that of her ownmother she had not known, came, as most girls do, to the time ofmarriage. There was a honeymoon, and a return to the new home. Thelittle bungalow had been made ready for their coming. The shades wereup, admitting the early morning sun. The kitchen stove was kindled, the linen arranged and the breakfast table set for two. A simple andtouching welcome home, born in the mind of this thoughtful, motherlywoman. Only a day or two before her death there came to her home aMexican woman who could not make her wants understood, but it wasearly morning and cold, and she was invited into the kitchen and wasgiven a cup of coffee. She could not make her wants known, but shedid find a kind, responsive heart and a sympathetic soul, and wentaway refreshed. By this simple act of kindness one was made to seethe town and the world as a better place. On the day of her fatalilness which came so unexpected and soon, was the birthday of a littlegirl who has no mother . But the mother-love of this woman was againhere. There was a party given at the home of the guardian of thelittle girl, and for a present there was a nearly finished doll andlittle doll quilt which Mrs. Hitchcock was finishing when she wasstricken. So, until the last, Mrs. Hitchcock thought of others morethan of herself. A beautiful life, A Christian mother, a faithfurlfriend, a momunment is built to her in the hearts of her friends.By Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Camp, to the Santa Shop Crafts Bullletin.Winslow, Arizona.
