My mother's maiden name was Cordelia Sammis. She was the oldestdaughte rof Professor Daniel Sammis, pioneer educator of theWilliamette Valley. My father was practicing medicine in SF when thebig fire swept the tent and shanty city, int he fall of 1851. Mymother and her brother, Edward Sammis, came to Oregon by way of theIsthmus, joining my father in San Francisco.
Died on the Caywood place, near Bethel and Eola, in the spring of1857. Only living child in 1857 Joseph N. Hudson. While dying, sheasked Mrs. Francis Caywood to take care of him and she kept herpromise.
