Charles Benedict Buckingham

He was brought up in a town where his family were probably the mostprominent in the town, his mother being quite a presence untilelderly. They lived in the big white house on the green and he hadone brother named Scovill McLean Buckingham, otherwise known as "UncleMac." His wedding to Miss Agnes Deforest Curtiss was quite an affairin Watertown of 1905 and the group wedding photo is attached. Heapparently was a "manufacturer" as listed on his marriage certificate,but his death certificate lists him as a salesman. A newspaperarticle describes The Watertown Manufacturing Company being formed byhim and some partners to manufacture articles from metals, silk, bone,wood and chemicals. I believe this entity eventually became themammoth Scovill Manufacturing Company, active to this day. He isdescribed as a fun-loving man by his children, always willing to gosledding or participate in whatever game was being played at the time. He was sick only three months and succumbed to liver cancer veryquickly at a rather young age, leaving his wife to raise theirchildren into adulthood. He is remembered fondly by all who have toldme about him as a very social man with a wonderful sense of humor.
