Albert H. Ford Dies; Ex-Utility Official
Pioneer in Field Last Served with the Brooklyn Edison Co.
St. Petersburg, Florida, April 20
Albert H. Ford, retired utility manager and a pioneer in thedevelopment of utilities in the South and in NY, died last night in ahospital here. His age was 86. Mr. Ford was born in NY, and beganhis career in New Orleans, where he became general manager of theStreet Railway and Power Co. and directed installation of the city'sfirst street railway. In 1902 he joined the NY engineering firm ofFord, Bacon & Davis, but not long afterward became president of theAmerican Cities Power and Light Co., now the National Power & LightCo., and in 1906 went to Birmingham, Alabama as president of one ofits subsidiaries, the Birmingham Railway, Light and Power Co. In 1914Mr. Ford was made VP and Geneeral Mgr. of the Cumberland Co. Power andLight Co. of Portland, Maine where he served for many years. At hisretirement in 1935 he was personnel director for the Brooklyn EdisonCo. of NY. Since then he had lived in St. Petersburg, Florida andNewnan, GA. He leaves a widow, Mary P. Ford; a daughter Mrs. WMJWhateley of Atlanta; two sons, Halsey L. Ford of St. Petersburg, Fla.,and Hanson G. Ford of Newnan, GA; a sister Miss Sue Ford of NY and abrother, Edward D. Ford, president of the Memphis Street Railway Co.of Memphis, TN. Services will be held at Newnan this afternoon.
