ROCHESTER - Lewis Hadden
Stewart, 70, retired lumber dealer and executive secretary of theFulton County Red Cross, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday in Woodlawnhospital, where he had been a patient for three months. Death cameafter a year's illness. Mr. Stewart resided at 913 Jefferson street.For 11 years co-owner of the Rochester Lumber company he took over thesecretary's post of the Red Cross office in July, 1959, and serveduntil November, 1960. A.veteran of World War I, he served in Francewith the 150th Field Artillery of the famed Rainbow Division. Mr.Stewart was a member of the Kiwanis dub, Leroy C. Shelton Post ofAmerican Legion and Phi Delta Theta fraternity of DePauw university,which he attended. He was born Oct. 20, 1890, in New Marysville,Indiana, the son of A. B. and Mary Hixon Stewart. He had lived inthis community 24 years, moving here from Versailles. His marriage wasSept. 30, 1922, at Roachdale, to Helen F. Ford, who survives. Alsosurviving are two sons, James R. Stewart, in the Navy atMechanicsburg, Pa., and L. Hadden Stewart, Pendleton, and
six grandsons. Funeral rites will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in theZimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. James A. Schumacher o ff icemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
